So the result will be: All these guys get unemployed and the congregations will have to pay a chaplain? May be they create a new fund for COs and their wives and every congregation will have to 'donate' 5$ per publisher.

The car fleet program is paid by the congregations. But living expenses and so on? Many publishers give them money every visit week. I thought they also get some money by bethel. -

Sorry for my inaccurate posting. I meant my source already knew that the DOs would be abolished before it was read to the assembly, some years ago.
In Europe, the COs have cars like company cars. All drive the same model and they are paid by bethel. This was meant with the car fleet program.
My friend said he knows COs, which were recently transferred to bethel without explanation. They now work in the legal department etc. He suspects that this is related to the abolition of COs.

Has anyone else already heard of it? I can not really imagine that. This would mean less control over the congregations. And: What is the expense of an CO for the org?

Special Talks now via video
by AverageJoe1 intired of listening to your local elders giving the "special" talk ever year after the memorial?
well don't worry, as of next year we will be spicing things up for your enjoyment.. not only will we be having the talk before the memorial (i know, wild huh), but we will be treating you to the talk via video starring our famous speakers from bethel so you can see how a talk should be given (after all bethel does boast the best speakers in any country, right?!).
here's a copy of the text from our latest letter as i'm sure that with so much excitement you won't believe it at first!.

I think that's the point. Surely the talk will include hints about not taking the emblems.
Another point that i saw the last years: Many witness families go on holiday right after the memorial and are missing the special talk in their cong. This year for example the hall in my town was pretty empty.

TO ALL CONGREGATIONS
Re: 2018 Memorial and Special Talk
Dear Brothers:
On Saturday evening, March 31, 2018, we will gather to observe the Lord’s Evening Meal. (Luke 22:19) To generate enthusiasm for the Memorial, the special public talk, entitled “Who Really Is Jesus Christ?,” will be presented one week before the Memorial, during the week of March 19, 2018. Congregations that have an assembly or the visit of the circuit over-seer the week of March 19 will have the special talk one week earlier. Most congregations will view a talk that has been prerecorded by the branch office, and in many cases, given by a member of the Branch Committee. We hope this advance notice will be helpful to you in pre-paring for these important events.
Your brothers,
c: Circuit overseers
PS to bodies of elders:
Please arrange for this letter to be read to the congregation at the first midweek meeting after its receipt. Thereafter, it should be posted on the information board. However, this postscript should neither be read to the congregation nor be posted on the information board.
In preparation for the 2018 Memorial, please review the direction on selecting a Memorial speaker and selecting Memorial meeting times found in the February 13, 2017, letter to all bodies of elders.
The prerecorded special talk will be available on JW Stream about one month prior to the week it is to be presented. Please assign an elder or a ministerial servant to download the prerecorded talk from JW Stream (using his jw.org credentials) several weeks before the congregation is scheduled to view it. Since there may be multiple recordings available in the same language, in early 2018 the branch office will inform groups and congregations which recording they should use. If possible, a backup speaker should be assigned in case of technical problems with the recording. If a congregation or group does not have the necessary equipment to view the recording or if the recording is not available in the language of the congregation or group, the body of elders should assign a qualified speaker to give the talk in the usual manner. Is this the beginning of the end of "live" public talks?

TO ALL CONGREGATIONS
Re: Jesus—The Way, the Truth, the Life
Dear Brothers: We are pleased to inform you that the book Jesus—The Way, the Truth, the Life will be considered at the Congregation Bible Study beginning the week of December 18, 2017.
In anticipation of this, production of printed copies will begin in the next few months. In view of the cost involved in producing printed publications, it is preferred that publishers make full use of electronic copies if possible. However, if you wish to request a printed copy, please inform your group overseer at the conclusion of this meeting.
We send our warm Christian love.
PS to bodies of elders:
Please arrange for this letter to be read to the congregation at the first midweek meeting after its receipt. Thereafter, it should be posted on the information board. However, this postscript should neither be read to the congregation nor be posted on the information board.
Each group overseer should ask each publisher in his group whether the publisher desires a printed copy. Special care should be taken by each group overseer to contact any publishers in his group who are homebound or were absent from the meeting when the announcement was made. After tallying the requests from his group, the group overseer should promptly inform the service overseer of the quantity needed. The service overseer, with the help of the literature servant, should verify the number of requests that could not be filled immediately. The service overseer should then convey this number to the languagecoordinating congregation.
Language-coordinating congregations should submit requests for the total quantity needed by the congregations in their language group. A few additional copies may be requested for stock. All requests should be submitted to the branch office by July 16, 2017.

I looked into the final talks each day and found these releases to be announced:
On Saturday:
New magazine-size book entitled "Lessons You Can Learn From the Bible". It is a revision of the Bible Stories book.
On Sunday:
New Video “Remember the Wife of Lot” (the "drama" shown at the convention)
The last time they announced a book not for kids was in 2015. Isn't it unusual?

Major changes to convention security beginning in 2017
by Edison Trent inshort info on interesting changes to the major conventions this year: there will be a new security concept that will be implemented at all regional conventions in 2017.. similar to other major events (e.g.
festivals, concerts), there will be admittance controls in stadiums.. - at each entrance, there will be a massive presence of attendants that look at each visitor.. - there will be pocket checks at the entrance.. - suspicious persons are no longer left on the convention grounds.. - suppliers to the stadium will be intensively inspected by attendants.. - there will be a special sign for attendants that must enter the stadium before 7.30 am.
all others (even all attendants) can only enter after 7.30 am..

My info says, it is for regional conventions, not just international ones, and the GB asked for it. I think this will be a worldwide thing.
